Wood carving, which has been going on for thousands of years, is still continuing despite the decline in Amasra's historical tow truck bazaar. Wood carving, which has survived from the Phoenician period to the present day, opens a door of bread for the local people thanks to the rich forests of the Black Sea.
Thanks to the lathes located behind and inside the shops Amasra Timber products are transformed into local products such as spice racks, salt shakers, trivets, trays, napkin holders, pens and key chains in the hands of Amasra masters.

Although there is a vehicle road just 100 meters in front of the Lava Rocks, it is extremely wrong to create a platform on the sand in the form of a railway by crossing the beach from the furthest point to the Lava Rocks. We can neither load nets on our fishing boats nor take the fish we caught. In addition, our friends who have been operating here for 30 years could not even drive 5 and 6 nails. Because it is a natural protected area, but our state did not make us do it. He drove 6 meters of pipes into the sand. They said that if the citizens do something about the coastline, but if the official institutions do something, there is no line. Sabri Denizci, who has been in business for 30 years on the beach, said, “I have been an operator here for 30 years. They put an iron barrier in front of us like a railway. When my customer sits down, he sees the beach sands and if he wants to see the sea, he has to stand up and get on the chair. This was done in the name of tourism. We are eating bread from tourism here, if this platform was built for us, why do we suffer from it? There is a vehicle road right in front of the lava rocks, and this could be done with a 100-meter platform by starting the platform from there. But there are different accounts here," he said. Güzelce Hisar Village Deputy Headman Deniz Denizbilen said, “We have been struggling since 2009 and no one listened to us. They are building the platform hastily, for 12 months, tourism will be an act here, but they will remove the boards they will lay on the platform in winter, and they will pass a train over the iron in winter. We wonder how tourism will be in 12 months. This platform is not only a walking area, but I guess it is considered as a source of income. Walking over the platform will be paid, no one can walk for free after such an expense. Our boats are behind the platform. Like Fatih Sultan Mehmet, we are sliding our boats from the land on the woods.”
Anadolu Jet Airways has published a nice article about Amasra, the paradise of the Western Black Sea.

princess of the Black Sea AmasraWhen we cross the last green hills that hide the sea, it appears in all its beauty. The bays on both sides of the district, which was built on and around a green peninsula stretching out to the quiet blue of the sea, almost function as a natural harbor. The pearl of the Western Black Sea, Amasra has been dominated by many civilizations, from the Hittites to the Ottomans, throughout its history of more than three thousand years. When Fatih Sultan Mehmet said when he first saw Amasra, "Is this Çeşm-i Cihan?" the word gives an idea about the beauty of the district. Amasra, which came to the stage of history as a small maritime colony and sometimes as an important state center, has always been an indispensable living space. Amasra Museum, where this magnificent history is summarized and exhibited, is located on the shore of Küçük Harbor. The building, which was built as the first maritime school of the Ottoman Empire in the Black Sea, displays ethnographic items as well as archaeological artifacts found in the region.

THE TASTE OF FISH
Amasra's famous Attractive Bazaar It takes its name from the charm, an ancient craft unique to Amasra. At one time, hammer masters used to pull wood back and forth on hand looms to give it the shape they wanted. When modern lathes became widespread, this craft was also on the verge of disappearing. However, efforts are being made to bring it back to life. It is possible to find thousands of items made of wood in the bazaar, which is built on a narrow and long street surrounded by old buildings. In addition to woodwork, handicrafts such as cross-stitch, wire breaking, needlework and lace, handcrafted by Amasra housewives, are also sold in the bazaar. After shopping, we go to Amasra Castle. The castle was built by the Romans and expanded by the Genoese in the 14th century. Although centuries have passed, the royal reliefs on its walls are still evident. The neighborhood within the walls is connected to the peninsula by a one-eyed stone bridge. The view of Boztepe inside the castle is magnificent: Amasra's historical harbors on both sides and Rabbit Island on the opposite. You can't come here and not try Amasra's legendary fish and salad. Salads prepared with about twenty different seasonal ingredients are indispensable for fresh fish. Buffalo yogurt with walnuts and honey is a must for this feast.
IN WINDLY BAY
After leaving Amasra, on the 13th kilometer of the Cide road, we continue in the direction indicated by the Bozköy sign. The end of the village road leads to a beach about four kilometers long. This place is perfect for those who want to be out of sight. The back of the beach is forest, the front is open sea. It is very enjoyable to swim in the slightly wavy sea. We set off again to explore new places. Two kilometers later, we come across Çakraz Beach. Just behind a long beach, hotels, restaurants and tea gardens are lined up. From Çakraz, we follow the sea on one side and the mountains and forests on the other, and follow a winding but enjoyable road for about 20 kilometers to reach Tekkeönü. A feverish work can be seen in the shipyards lined up in the port. Boat building has been a tradition in the region since ancient times. Most of the blue cruise boats used in Marmaris and Bodrum were crafted by the masters here. Turkey's first Wooden Boat Building High School also provides education here. Masters teach apprentices the finesse of the job, and the craft is tried to be passed on from generation to generation.
WRITTEN TO THE SEA
Eight kilometers after leaving Tekkeönü, we are in Kurucaşile. Here, too, boat building workshops are lined up along the road. When we reach Kapısuyu Village after 11 kilometers, Bartın is left behind. We are now in the borders of Kastamonu. After a few kilometers, we meet with a natural harbor in the Gideros Bay. The bay, which has a narrow entrance, is quite impressive with its appearance resembling a giant crescent. 12 kilometers from Dizios, the long sandy beaches of Cide unfold before us. Contrary to the settlements we saw along the way, the center of Cide was established at a point far from the sea.
The house of Rıfat Ilgaz, the author of the book Hababam Class, is located on the road to the center. Born and raised in Cide, the writer returned to his hometown in the last years of his life and wrote many of his novels here. We are visiting the shops on Yeni Pazar Street in the district, which is full of elegant historical houses. The region is very famous for its printed weaving called yellow writing, its mirrored green chests and its white halva with walnuts. We buy small gifts for our loved ones and sit in one of the tea gardens on the beach. Puffy Black Sea winds are enough to renew our soul and body.
YELLOW WRITTEN
When you go to Cide, you can buy yellow writing and present it to your loved ones. This yellow writing, which is a type of weaving unique to the region, draws attention with its vivid colors and flower motifs. Cideli writer Rıfat Ilgaz also has a novel called Sarı Yazma.

August 2013 / Cool Summer in the Western Black Sea Region
Paphlagonia, located on the Black Sea (Pontus Eukseinos) coast, is separated from Bithynia in the west by the Filyos (Biillaios) stream and from Pontus in the east by the Kızılırmak river. The region was called Paphlagonia, meaning "Land of Iron Horses" in ancient times.
The Enet people, who were warriors, fond of their freedom, and famous for their cavalry troops, lived in the region. It was considered the best vanguard unit of the Persian armies. According to historian Herodotus, knitted caps, small shields, short spears, spears and daggers were used in wars.
Some historians state that the horses belonging to Alexander the Great, Fatih Sultan Mehmet and Yavuz Sultan Selim were bred in Paphlagonia.

Delikli Şile is 15 km east of Amasra and in the Paphlagonia region.
The color of its soil is red due to the excess of iron. The region (together with Çakraz) was named "Eritrinoi" in ancient times due to this feature.
Delikli Şile is in the shape of a peninsula with its panoramic view. It extends to the Black Sea in the north-south direction. There is a beach to the east of the peninsula. When you travel a certain distance in the sea from the west side (i.e. Amasra side), you can see a gap in the middle parts of the island and in the sea.
The northern side of the village is painted in blue, the natural color of the "Konuk Sevmez Deniz", and the south-eastern sides of the bay are decorated with pistachio green.
The history of Delikli Şile has parallels with the history of Amasra, which is very close to it. As in Amasra, Phoenicians, Ionians, Kayrans, Achaeans, Persians and following the Amastris period, Pontians, Romans, Byzantines, Genoese and Ottomans made Delikli Şile (Akkonak) their home.
Regarding Pastor Minas Bıjikyan Çakraz, who visited Bartın and its surroundings between 1817 and 1819; “ Delikli Şile is a place 9 miles away from Amasra, with an unfavorable harbor and a cape called Çakras. Arriaons writes that a Greek people called Eritali lived here.”
Again in the XVIII. Century Ottoman Geography Writer, Uluslu İbrahim Hamdi Efendi, mentioned the following in his work titled "ATLAS": "9 miles east from the seaside, you can pass between a rocky place called Deliklişile, which is divided into two. The town with a mosque and a pier nearby is called Külas (Çakraz).”
Generally, the elders in the village call the highest part of the island as the side of the church. Again, in the central-northern part of the island, there is a water well built with stones, approximately 4X2 in size, dating back to the Genoa period and descended by stairs. It is thought that the place in question was a well to collect rainwater.
Delikli Şile Bay was rented by a company in the past for the purpose of producing salmon. Although cages that allow aquaculture are placed; The mechanism in question was swallowed by the waves in the Black Sea. Until recently, a dog, a guard and the management building constituted the last traces of the mentioned aquaculture.
Delikli Şile's history in sun-sand-sea tourism is parallel to that of Çakraz next door. In addition, it is a very suitable place for angling. The location called Köyüstü provides jumping ground conditions for paragliding enthusiasts. The village houses dotted on the land, the lace-like shores, the "Parade of Love" and its pistachio green rituals offer magnificent views to the spectators.
Although there is no abundance of fish today, fish for Delikli Şileli; It is delicious if caught in the Black Sea. Products other than this (aquaculture) are not given much credit.
Cruel waves with white foam have been beating the shores of Delikli Şile, as in other places, since the formation of the land. This struggle has worn them out. It gave frightening images. The most interesting ones are "Parade of Love" with Karaca Kaya.
Even the writer Uluslu Hamdi, who lived during the Ottoman period about 400 years ago, stated that boats passed through this passage and birds roosted in the secluded places of the passage.
“Passage of Love” is not an ordinary rock hole, it has a different meaning. There is a symbol of love. It is as if the rose tree stuck its thorn into the heart of the nightingale that sang the most beautiful songs there. It became red by feeding on his blood.
People of Delili Şile think that there is a subtle disease in roses. They do not find it appropriate to plant new roses on lands where roses have previously grown or near old rose saplings. Although the reason is not known exactly, it is an obsession that new roses will not grow well in such places and will even die and perish. Ultimately, they arrive at a synthesis. Love is "One". There is no repetition. Just as roses cannot grow in the same soil, there cannot be a second love in the same heart. If anyone claims that it is, either they have not experienced love or they do not know love.
Is there only originality in the passage? No. The love of the wave and the shore is also a ritual in Delikli Şile.
The wave carrying the foam on it is always the lover, and the shore is the loved one. The wave that starts with creation and goes to infinity always rushes to the shore with the desire to meet its love. He touches his beloved with the tips of his fingers and then turns back. He knows that he won't be able to reunite completely, but he can't help but run to the beach. He gives his love and his body without counting with every touch… And then he goes back to eternity… The “Passage of Love” is such a sublime place… It gives pleasant feelings even to the most hardened hearts…
We always made sentences using "Delikli Şile". This noun and adjective have been used side by side for centuries. For some reason, it has become unpopular lately... They threw it away and named the village "Akkonak". But it lacks most features. It does not remind me of love, affection or the color of roses.

Valla Canyon in Muratbaşı village of Pınarbaşı district starts from the junction of Devrekani Stream and Kanlıçay. jedi The height of the 12 km long side wall rocks in the direction of the district reaches 800–1400 m in places.
It is a stabilized road until Muratbaşı Valla Mahallesi. The 1.5 km part up to the canyon is the path in the forest.
It is on the Zara Stream and there are pits in the form of deep cauldrons formed by the erosion of the lime in the stone. There are pits designed for people living in ancient times to carve the rocks and direct the water channels and turn the mills in the region.

From the coal mine belonging to HEMA enterprise in Amasra 28 workers were laid off instead of Chinese workers receipt.
The company officials, who said that they invested(?) to build a thermal power plant in Amasra and announced that it would be a solution to the unemployment problem in Amasra and Bartın, started to bring workers from China even before the power plant was opened.
Approximately 7000 people live in Amasra, which is affiliated with Bartın District. It is surrounded by sea on 3 sides. The population increases approximately 3 times in summer. The most important source of income is fishing and tourism. Half of the local population is engaged in fishing. Women working in the fields in village areas generally earn their living by selling the products they produce.
Bartın is located in the western part of the Black Sea Region, between 410 -53' north latitude and 320 -33' east longitude. While the Black Sea surrounds its north with its 59 km coastline, it neighbors Kastamonu to the east, Karabük to the east and south, and Zonguldak to the west. Area: 2143 km2 and the average elevation is 25 m.
Bartın and its surroundings consist of limestone-carbon terrain belonging to the 1st and 2nd geological periods. In addition, many faults, fractures, folds, depressions, rises, sea advances, sea retreats, life, water, wind, ice, volcanism and similar activities have created and shaped the geography we live on today.
Here, briefly, the formations of the region in its 400 million year old adventure in terms of rock formation and the Lava Rocks seen in Güzelcehisar and Mugada, which are among the rare 93-70 million year old natural formations in the world, will be included.
Hamzafakılı Formation is the oldest unit belonging to the 1st period. It was formed 410–395 million years ago from 250 meters thick quartzite and microconglomerate (Inkumu Road).
Göktepe Formation
The thickness of the Göktepe Formation, which was formed 390-370 million years ago, varies between 100-400 meters. It consists of meta sandstone, meta claystone, meta siltstone (Karasu Village).
Yılanlı Formation
The Yılanlı Formation, formed by limestones, overlies the Göktepe Formation. Its thickness is variable and is more than 1000 meters (east and west of the Bartın Strait). Shales formed 315–309 million years ago are 850 meters thick (around Esenpınar Village).
Kozlu-Karadon Formation
The Kozlu-Karadon Formation, which formed 306-289 million years ago and constitutes the hard coal deposits of Turkey, is seen in Tarlaağzı and Gömü Villages.
Çakraz Formation
From Amasra to Cide, 1200 meters thick red sandstones and shales are seen. There is a high probability that dinosaur footprints will be found in the studies to be carried out in the west of Çakraz Village bay. This formation is overlain by limestones formed 163–112 million years ago. There are fossils in these limestones in Amasra Boztepe. The formation spreads east-west, with Bartın Center being its southern border. This formation is overlain by sandstone, siltstone and volcanic members that were formed 65-35 million years ago in the south of Bartın. In the last million years, alluviums, beach sands and hillside rubble have formed.

Today, on many news sites, Bartın is mentioned in terms of air pollution. It was written that it is the 2nd city of Europe… (T24, Hürriyet etc.)
In our research from foreign sources, we revealed that it was written by "Batman", not Bartın (thanks to Alper Kanbur for the research).
This bad perception should not affect Bartın – Amasra, which stands out both naturally and culturally with its 3000-year history and Küre Mountains.
Announced to the public Bartın is not Batman, Batman cannot have Bartın.

AMASRA ANKARA PILAF RECIPE
Materials:
One kilo of anchovies, one glass of rice, two large onions, one tablespoon of peanuts, one teaspoon of currants, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, enough oil.
Fabrication:
The bones of the anchovies are removed, divided into two, washed and drained. Add oil to the pot. Peanuts are roasted with very small onions. Then, add thoroughly washed rice and continue roasting.
Then currants, salt and finally 1 glass of water are added and cooked.
Care should be taken to keep the rice firm.
After turning off the fire, add black pepper and chili pepper and mix.
The bottom of a small deep tray is oiled.
The anchovies are divided into two parts and placed on the tray with the shiny parts facing down. Anchovies are arranged around the edges.
The prepared filling is poured over it and spread. It is covered with anchovies on the side. Cover the rice with the remaining anchovies, with the shiny parts on top, without leaving any space. When arranging the anchovies, place them on top of each other so that they do not get separated as they will shrink while cooking. Bake the anchovies in the oven at 180 degrees until they are cooked. After taking it out of the oven, turn it upside down and serve.
Anchovy abundance continues in Amasra,
Fishing boats fishing around Amasra returned to Tarlaağzı port with tons of anchovies in the morning.
Fishing boats coming from various provinces and fishing off the coast of Amasra entered the port with tons of local anchovies. The anchovies on the boat were loaded onto trucks filling the fishing harbor and shipped to surrounding provinces. While anchovies were given free of charge to citizens coming to the port, those who filled bags and buckets with anchovies headed home.
Recep Sıbıç, the owner of the boat belonging to Eyüpoğlu Fisheries, who came to the port with 90 personnel, stated in his statement that they caught around 350 tons of fish off the coast of Bartın and Amasra.
The abundance of anchovy in Amasra made both fishermen and local citizens happy.
The people of Amasra and Bartın continue to show that they do not want a thermal power plant, with thousands of signatures and health lawsuits filed. Along with Bartın Mayor Cemal AKIN, Bartın deputy Rıza YALÇINKAYA accompanies the thermal power plant resistance.
