Historical Characteristics and Importance

It is an old Byzantine Church built in the 9th century inside the Amasra Castle. It was converted into a mosque during the conquest of Amasra in 1460 by Fatih Sultan Mehmet.

Architectural Features
The Narthex (First Community) section and the Ambon (Apsis) projection of the building, which has all the structural features of the period, were added to the space later. In 1887, the cradle vault roof of the mosque, which is 19×11 m in size, which covered the place except for its four walls and was in danger of collapsing in places, was removed, and a wooden ceiling and roof were made instead, and a major repair was made.

What is the reason for the Friday Sermon being read with the sword drawn?

As it is known, our master the Prophet Hz. Muhammad's Friday sermon in Mecca, where he went in his war clothes, by unsheathing his sword; For years, "Sunnah" was accepted and started to be applied in all mosques. Although this tradition has been forgotten in the past 1400 years, it is still carried on in Amasra Fatih Mosque and attracts a lot of attention.
